He escorted John le Carre around South East Asia as he researched The Honourable Schoolboy. He was wounded in Vietnam and awarded a Bronze Star for rescuing a Marine. He was with Sidney Schanberg and Dith Pran in Phnom Penh before the city descended into the killing fields of the Khmer Rouge. Greenway covered Sadat in Jerusalem, civil war and bombing in Lebanon, ethnic cleansing and genocide the Balkans, the Gulf Wars (both), and reported from Afghanistan and Iraq as they collapsed into civil war. About the major players of the Australian media, their roles and influence on Australian lives, and the issues of journalistic practice that shape their content. But the print and broadcast material that we consume every day can also be perverse, shallow, illogical, infuriatingly opportunistic, crassly commercial, insufferably pretentious and rarely witty.

HarperCollins Sydney 2013
Hardback octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), colour photos, folded corner one page. 352 pp. An incisive, hard-hitting and utterly compelling exposure of media, powerful mates and multimillion-dollar deals. The inside story of the decline of hallowed media company Fairfax, publisher of The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review. Covers 15 years of lost opportunity and mismanagement, this story culminates in Fairfax's catastrophic loss of the classified advertising market to the internet, as the famous 'rivers of gold' run dry. the savage twist in the tale is that the new companies dominating the online advertising market were not just hungry internet start-ups - but one by one, each of the new leaders in the field came under the direct influence of two traditional media tycoons, James Packer and Lachlan Murdoch, both intent on expanding their own online businesses. With exclusive and unprecedented access to both Murdoch and Packer, as well as an extraordinary line-up of Australian business leaders and influential powerbrokers, this is a powerful insiders' story of the deals, the power plays and the machinations behind the influential media organisation's decline.
