The submerged continents are described in graphic detail -- their location, history, flora and fauna, human inhabitants, customs, science, religion, and contact with advanced teachers. The information comes from the writings of Plato, from the esoteric tradition as set forth in The Secret Doctrine of H.P. Blavatsky, and from the clairvoyant writings of C.W. Leadbeater, one of the most remarkable sensitives of modern times. The result is a modern expression of a timeless myth in which everyone now living has a role. – rear panel blurb. Siva’s Warriors: The Basava Purana of Palkuriki Somanatha (Princeton Library of Asian Translations)
Somanatha, Palkuriki (Rao, Velcheru Narayana – Translator),
ISBN: 0691055912
Princeton University Press, New Jersey, 1990. First Edition
Hardcover (1/4 Cloth 3/4 Boards) Hardcover (1/4 Cloth 3/4 Boards). Very Good Condition/Good. First Edition. acknowledgements, list of abbreviations, Guide to pronunciation, introduction by the translator, summary of the text, notes, bibliography and index of names. At the beginning of the text there is a black-and-white photograph showing an image of Kannappa. 1/4 brown coloured cloth covered back strip with gilt coloured titles. 3/4 phase coloured boards. Black and white photographic dustwrapper with ochre coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. "Here is the first translation into English of the Basava Purana, a fascinating collection of tales that sums up and characterizes one of the most important and most radical religious groups of South India. The ideas of the Virasaivas, or militant Saivas, are represented in those tales by an intriguing mix of outrageous excess and traditional conservatism. Written in Telugu in the thirteenth century, the Basava Purana is an anthology of legends of Virasaivas saints and a hagiography of Basavesvara, the twelfth-century Virasaiva leader. This translation makes accessible a completely new perspective on this significant religious group. Although Telugu is one of the major cultural traditions of India, with a classical literature reaching back to the eleventh century, until now there has been no translation or exposition of any of the Telugu Virasaiva works in English. The introduction orients the reader to the text and helps in an understanding of the poet's point of view. The author of the Basava Purana, Palkuriki Somanatha, is revered as a saint by Virasaivas in Andhra and Karnataka. His books are regarded as sacred texts, and he is also considered to be a major poet in Telugu and Kannada." -- from the front fold over panel blurb. Rubbing to the back strip corners and book corners. Some age toning of the text block edges and there is a black remainder stripe to the lower text edge. Rubbing and creasing of the dustwrapper edges and rubbing of the panels. Handling marks rubbing marks, stains and the remains of a sticker can be seen to the dustwrapper – please see photograph. The 2012 Story; The Myths, Fallacies, and Truth Behind the Most Intriguing Date in History
Jenkins, John Major,
ISBN: 1585427667
Tarcher, New York, 2009. First Edition
Hardcover Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. First Edition. On December 21, 2012, the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, a 5,125-year cycle calendar system pioneered by the Maya, will come to an end. At the same time, the earth, the sun, and the centre of the galaxy will come together in an extremely rare cosmic alignment. More and more people believe that the world as we know it will experience a transformation in 2012, but few are aware of the complete history or significance of the date. John Major Jenkins, among the most authoritative voices of the 2012 movement, has written a definitive explanation of one of the most thought-provoking phenomena of our time. Drawing from his own groundbreaking research (including his involvement in the modern reconstruction of Mayan 2012 cosmology) and more than two decades of extensive study of Mayan culture, Jenkins has created the crucial guide to understanding the story of 2012--an essential overview of the history, theory, cultures, and personalities that have brought this extraordinary idea into modern awareness. Jenkins provides illuminating answers to some of the most-asked questions about 2012, including: - How did the early Maya devise the calendar that gives us the cycle ending in 2012, and how does it work? - How did the calendar come to be rediscovered and reconstructed in our era? - What controversies and intrigues surround the topic, and what do scholars and researchers have to say about them? - How can we cut through all the noise about 2012 and gain true wisdom from the Mayan teachings about this moment? – dust jacket blurb The book is 2nd hand, it does not appear to have been read. It is illustrated with some drawings and photographs within the text. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 496 pages. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1.
