Landing Craft, Air Cushion in Action
Gourley, John
ISBN: 9780897478243
Squadron/Signal Publications  2016
Soft Cover New book, 80 pages, SS14037. In 1966 a Landing Craft Coordinating Group was assembled to discuss and draft specifications for a new landing craft. The work resulted in the Patrol Air Cushion Vehicle (PACV) that saw service in the Vietnam War. By 1970 designs for an Amphibious Assault Landing Craft (AALC) were on the drawing board. The U.S. Navy ordered the first three LCACs February 1982. LCACs move over rocks and other beach obstacles and have reduced susceptibility to damage from mines. The crew consists of five enlisted personnel: a Deck Engineer, a Load Master, a Navigator, an Engineer, and a Craft Master. LCACs are not given names, only pennant numbers to differentiate between them. With an originally specified 30-year life expectancy, LCACs would have begun to retire in 2004 but for a major Service Live Extension Program (SLEP) begun in 2001. Packed with more than 240 vivid color photos, comprehensive tables, color profiles and detailed line drawings.  As New

Ohio-Class Submarines On Deck
Goodall, Jim
ISBN: 9780897475136
Squadron/Signal Publications  2011
Soft Cover New book, 80 pages, SS5603. Since its inception in 1960, strategic deterrence has been the sole mission of the fleet ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), which provides the nation's most survivable and enduring nuclear strike capability. The eighteen submarines of the Ohio class replaced aging fleet ballistic missile submarines built in the 1960s and are far more capable. Carrying twenty-four Trident missiles each, the Ohios carry fifty percent of all US strategic nuclear warheads and provide the sea-based 'leg' of the US strategic deterrent triad. An unprecedented bow-to-stern look at this critical US weapon system with more than 200 color and b/w photos, line drawings and 8 color profiles.  As New

Soviet Cruise Missile Submarines of the Cold War
Hampshire, Edward
ISBN: 9781472824998
Osprey Pub Co  2018
Soft Cover New book, 48 pages, NVG260. The Soviet Union's cruise missile submarines from the modified Whiskey, to the Oscar II classes were among the most formidable vessels of the Cold War. They were initially designed to carry land attack nuclear-tipped cruise missiles designed to strike targets on the eastern coast of the United States. By the late 1960s, however, submarine-launched ballistic missiles made the nuclear land-attack mission unnecessary, so existing classes were converted to the ‘carrier killer' role, armed with anti-ship cruise missiles designed to destroy US super-carriers and other important naval targets. This fully illustrated study examines these powerful machines that were some of the largest and fastest submarines ever built. If war had broken out, they would have been at the forefront of the Soviet Navy's campaign to destroy NATO's sea power and cut America's sea link with Europe.  As New
