Belgian Bergepanzer 2 and 2000
Winnepenninckx, Patric
Trackpad Publishing  2018
Soft Cover New book, 80 pages. With the introduction of the Leopard 1BE as the new main battle tank for the Belgian Army in 1968, it was a logical decision that the Bergepanzer 2 would be bought as a replacement for the ageing Sherman-based ARVís then in service. This was an enormous improvement for the recovery and maintenance teams in the Leopard 1 tank units. After being in service for more then thirty years, eighteen Belgian Bergepanzer 2s were modernised in 2002 by the German company, FFG. Updates included new fuel cells, replacement of the main winch, and the addition of a second smaller 1.5 ton-winch at the front of the vehicle. This Model Foto Focus takes a thorough look around these little-documented but fascinating machines. For the modeller, this is the ultimate walkaround for an accurate model. For the armour enthusiast, it describes the Belgian versions of the Bergepanzer 2 and the Bergepanzer 2000 in great detail.  As New

Brazilian Stuart - M3, M3A1, X1, X1A2 and Their Derivatives
Higuchi, Helio; Bastos, Paulo Roberto
Trackpad Publishing  2019
Soft Cover New book, 100 pages, 100+ photos. Somewhat eclipsed by medium and heavy tanks for its secondary role in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II, the Stuart tank was, however, more successful further away in the Pacific Theatre, where it surpassed in efficiency all its Japanese counterparts, albeit later out-performed by the M4 Sherman. It was in the post-war years that it would prove its mettle in Latin America due to its ease of operation and maintenance, allied to its low weight. It turned out to be much more useful than its larger cousins in the many local internal and external conflicts it took part in. Brazil, in particular, was its main operator. There, the M3/M3A1 Stuart became legendary as the most numerous tank in the history of the Brazilian Army, having been in active service for over forty years, participating in various instances of political turmoil, and decisively contributing to the development of local defence industries. Several models of tanks, such as the X1 Pioneiro, derived from modifications to the Stuartís chassis. Later, it would inspire the X1A2 project, the first mass-produced Brazilian tank.  As New

Centurion vs T-55: Yom Kippur War 1973
Dunstan, Simon
ISBN: 9781846033698
Osprey Pub Co  2009
Soft Cover New book, 80 pages, DUE21. Conceived at the height of World War II, the British Centurion and the Soviet T-55 were initially expected to counter the formidable Panther and Tiger tanks of Germany. But as the Cold War unfolded, these machines prepared instead for the coming struggle between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Though they never fought in Europe, these two tanks became the mainstay of the Cold War's proxy forces around the world. From Korea to the Middle East and on to Angola, these two armored combatants clashed repeatedly, reaching their crescendo on the Golan Heights during the Yom Kippur War where 177 Centurions of the IDF took on a vastly superior Arab force. This book compares the design, development and deployment of these classic tanks, and analyses their battlefield performance. Presented with highly detailed digital artwork, this is a tightly focused study of two of the Cold War's first main battle tanks.   As New

Chieftain - Britain's Flawed Masterpiece
Kent, Richard
ISBN: 9788365958297
Mushroom Model Publications  2019
Soft Cover New book, 184 pages. The FV4201 Chieftain was the main battle tank of the United Kingdom during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. It is still in service in the Middle East today. A development of the Centurion, the Chieftain introduced the supine (reclining) driver position to British design enabling a heavily sloped hull with reduced height. This book provides the reader with the full and unvarnished story of the origins, development, decades of service and combat history of the Chieftain Main Battle Tank. The text is interspersed with numerous photographs, many published for the first time, alongside colour profiles and scale plans, including those of rare and unusual variants. It also relates the experiences of the crews who lived and worked on the Chieftain, often in the irreverent style typical of Army humour.  As New

Danish Leopard 1A5DK1
Ostergaard, Kenneth
Trackpad Publishing  2015
Soft Cover New book, 100 pages. The fourth in our series of Model Foto Focus reference books includes colour full-view and walkaround captioned photos of a Leopard 1 that spent many years on peace-keeping duties with IFOR, KFOR and SFOR. From February 1976, Denmark started to receive their first Leopard 1A3DKs, and by 1978 all had been supplied. Towards the end of the 1980s, the Danish Army had to realise that an upgrade of the Leopards could no longer be postponed and a programme to upgrade to 1A5DK standard was started. Whereas the 1A3 version had lived a relatively unchanged life during its fifteen years, the 1A5 version was to have fifteen years with many changes. The main reason for this was a change in the operation for the Danish Army. In the lifetime of the 1A3 version, the task of the army was to participate in the defence of the country and NATO. In the lifetime of the 1A5DK version, the army had an increasing number of international assignments, largely peace-keeping missions, in the Balkans. This is one of the most thorough books of its type ever published. Written by Kenneth Ostergaard with many of his own photographs of a preserved vehicle (belonging to a preservation society he is a keen member of), the book is compiled into an attractive album. This Model Foto Focus includes colour full-view In-the Field and a large number of walkaround captioned photographs, making for a compelling collection of images. In the expanded 100 pages are 350 photos, some of which are full page size.  As New

Early IDF Armoured Cars
Gannon, Tom
Trackpad Publishing  2018
Soft Cover New book, 85 pages. This album tells the story of early armored cars from the very start of the State of Israel. Carefully researched and detailed captions put photographs in their historical context. Jewish engineers did not have true armor plate so they improvised with wood sandwiched between metal sheets. Makeshift fighting vehicles evolved into true armored cars. Technicians used a variety of military vehicles. Since the Arab forces were equipped mainly with armored cars and obsolete pre-war tanks, these home-grown vehicles were very useful. Captured materiel played a major part in the War of Independence. These included Daimler armored cars, ex-Egyptian Humbers, a few Otters and Marmon-Herringtons acquired from British stocks or captured from the Arabs. Dingo, Lynx and Humber Scout Cars, Humber and Morris Light Reconnaissance Cars and converted Canadian C15As were also obtained. Eventually, the French AML-90 was acquired in 1963.  As New
