man in aspic
Hall, Andrew,
Cassell, London, 1965. First Edition
Hardcover Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. First Edition. second-hand copy, dust jacket price clipped, dust jacket rubbed across all creases, top and front edges of the text block slightly spotty with foxing, traces of foxing to the first couple of pages. Previous owner's name at the top of the front end page. We first meet the main character of the age of 20, a puzzled young man, with a grave but healthy interesting funerals, which he attends as often as possible. Eight years later we have followed him through a disastrously handled Love affair, or bungled attempts at suicide (and a politely rejected offer from a psychopath to help with the fifth), and then he meets his Man in Aspic and begins to adjust his sense of values only to have the adjustment lead, ironically, to his ultimate downfall. (A novel of a repressed homosexual although whether Sydney knows it, even at the tragi-comic climax of his story is for the reader to decide.)
