The autobiography of the author, who was the son of a Scottish father and a Burmese woman in 1930. With the onset of the Japanese invasion of Burma in 1914 he and his mother and siblings made the perilous journey to India. On arrival he was suffering from both dysentery and malaria and was separated from his family. He was rescued and spent many slow months recovering and was not reunited with his family for four years. At the end of the war he went to England and eventually emigrated to Australia.
