Reprint. a reprint of the 1951 revised and enlarged edition of the 1935 original published by Cambridge University Press. Creme cloth exterior with title on spine and heraldic beast sculpture image on front and rear panels. There is marking of the front edge of the text block which penetrates the book to approximately 3 mm, otherwise the book is clean bright and free of damage. Please refer to the associated images. The book is illustrated with 683 black-and-white plates of sculpture found in churches, and cemeteries and museums in England. There is some foxing of the pages, but generally quite clean. The book considers preconquest (pre-Norman) sculpture right through to the 13th 14th centuries, the late Gothic, and also considers effigy types the Edwardian, the Lancastrian, the Yorkist, and the Tudor.
