Managing Mortality: Euthanasia on Trial
Parsons, Ian & Newell, Christopher Dr.,
ISBN: 0958763526
Villamanta Publishing Service, Geelong West, 1996. First Edition
Softcover Softcover. Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. First Edition. 300 g; XII, 189 pages, indexed, with bibliography. Colour illustrated paperback binding. The book shows no signs of damage. A book that discusses the morality and ethics and legal position of euthanasia. "It is important to note here that the whole issue of euthanasia is inextricably linked with issues about disability. Almost by definition, the people for whom the question of euthanasia will arise will be people who have disabilities. Sometimes those disabilities will be acquired through illness, sometimes not. For this reason we have felt it particularly important to bring some of the disability issues to the fore, and to ensure that people with disabilities themselves contribute to the discussion." Max Weber (Jurists: Profiles in Legal Theory)
Kronman, Anthony,
ISBN: 0804711402
Stanford University Press, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A., 1983. First Edition
Hardcover (Original Cloth) Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. First Edition. 400 g; X, 214 pages, including list of works published by Max Weber, biographical note, suggested further reading list, references, and index. Original photographic illustrated dust jacket. Slight rubbing of both the top and bottom edges of the dust jacket, and a slight imperfection in the front fold over crease, and a crease in the front fold over flap itself. Otherwise a clean bright copy. Max Weber was trained as a lawyer and a legal historian, and his lifelong interest in the law is reflected in nearly everything he wrote. But only in the lengthy essay entitled "Sociology of Law," does Weber focus primarily on the legal order itself. Despite its reputation as a classic and the enormous influence it has had, Weber's "Sociology of Law" has long been criticised for the density of its prose, the forbiddingly wide range of its coverage, and its lack of polish and organisational unity. This book not only demonstrates that it has more unity and coherence than its critics claim, but relates it clearly to other branches of Weber's general theory of society, -- notably those dealing with authority, religion, and economic action. The result is a new interpretation of the whole of Weber's sociology from the perspective of his sociology of law. This is the third volume in the series Jurists: Profiles in Legal Theory. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Category: Sociology & Culture; Legal; ISBN: 0804711402. ISBN/EAN: 9780804711401. Their Majesties the Mob
Caughey, John W.,
The Universe of Chicago Press, Chicago, Illinois, 1960. First Edition
Hardcover Hardcover. ex Library/No Dust Jacket. First Edition. 400 g; XII, 214 pages, includes bibliography, index, library pocket on rear paste down, "Police College" rubberstamp to rear end page, front end page, half title page. Dewey decimal number on rear end page and written in white on the spine. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine section, and to the top corners of the boards. Original bookseller's sticker on front paste down. Top edge of text block tinted red. Quite a presentable copy, the study which began with the purpose of analyse vigilante process as it had operated in the course of an American century. The introduction has that framework, and the documentary section, though assembled chronologically and with its Alnwick dates intact, is a cross-section of the evidence analysed. The method of the book thus is simple. Its findings are equally transparent. They are that, whatever temptation to escape the technicalities of legal justice by substituting direct action, the wiser course is to handle all such cases through the regular courts. This book, then, is a brief for due process. -- page VIII from the preface Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1.
