Out of the Abyss
The Forum Editors,
the Forum, Johannesburg, 1946. First Edition
Hardcover Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Poor Condition. Illustrator: Photographic. First Edition. 800 g; 232 pages, illustrated with double page map of the world on the front end pages, and a Chandlers beer ad on the rear panel paste down. There is no publication date evident, but on page 212 there is an advertisement which refers to 1946. The book years a series of articles detailing the events of World War II, with a focus on South African troops, illustrated with black-and-white photographs, and colour plates of Stalin, Roosevelt, Churchill and Smuts. Probably of more interest than the war articles, are the advertisements. In the main part they are full-page, and full of hope for the future. The dustjacket has a large sheet missing from the bottom left-hand corner of the rear panel, and from the central section of the spine and the top of the spine. The front fold over flap has detached, the rear fold over flap is almost detached. Now protected. Surprisingly the book itself apart from darkening of the top edge of the text block, shows no damage worth reporting. A picture can be provided to help with assessing condition.
