Black and white illustrated frontispiece, showing a portrait of Carlo Fontana aged 53. The text is illustrated with black and white illustrations of Carlo Fontana which are held at Windsor Castle, England. Dark blue coloured boards with gilt decoration and coloured titles to the spine. Illustrated the dustwrapper, showing a plan for an architectural embellishment by Carlo Fontana, with white coloured background and black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Carlo Fontana (1638-1714), pupil of Bernini and teacher of James Gibbs, was the chief papal architect at the turn of the 18th century. The 783 drawings in the present catalogue, that are held in Windsor Castle, provide an insight into papal patronage. Minor shelf wear to the bottom edges of the book and dust marks to the top edges. The dustwrapper is somewhat "loose" around the book. The dust wrapper is rubbed and slightly faded. Grubby marks to the front and back panel and there is crinkling to the top dustwrapper edge. The text is illustrated with contemporary black-and-white photographs and black-and-white photographs of artists work. 1/4 red cloth spine with gilt coloured titles and 3/4 brown coloured boards. Illustrated dustwrapper, being a reproduction of Oswald Birley's portrait of Claire Sheridan, with red and white coloured titles on the front panel and black coloured titles to the backstrip. Biography of the English artist Claire Sheridan and her relationships with Jennie Churchill, Mussolini, Lenin, Charlie Chaplin, Trotsky, Winston Churchill and others ( from the front panel ). Softening to the head and to the heel of the spine and shelfwear to the lower book edges. Dust marks to the paper edges and there are some handling marks to the endpapers. There has been a printing fault to the rear book panel; the rear free endpapers and the rear paste down have been folded together at the top right-hand corner of the back panel. The dustwrapper is rubbed and faded and the edges are in a likewise condition. Creasing and a little chipping to the top spine edge and creasing to the lower dustwrapper edge. The rear dustwrapper panel is rubbed and faded and the white background has become quite grubby. Sunning of the spine. This is the First USA Edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. With the dividing of Berlin after World War II, the two museums Bodemuseum & Charlottenberg, were separated for 30 years, of the fall of The Berlin Wall in 1992 and with this event there was going to be a unification of the West and East Berlin Egyptian collections and this small catalogue was to commemorate this event.
