Apricot coloured boards with gilt coloured titles and illustration to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper (wraparound) with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. The story of children dealing with an Australian bushfire; among the confusion, danger and horror of such an event. On the front panel is a gold sticker from the children's book Council of Australia advising book of the year 1966. Softening of the back strip edges with bumping of the book corners and lower book edges. A very slight cocking of the spine with some pale age toning of the text block edges and pages. Prize plate affixed to the free front end page. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges. Creasing of the book edges with rubbing of the panels. Fading of the back strip. The text is illustrated with 22 black-and-white photographs, black and white illustrations, graphs and sketches. Illustrated front cover, by Muriel Lloyd, with black writing on the front panel and spine. Bumping to the top book corners and to the head into the heel of the spine. Rubbing to the book edges and there has been very light rubbing to the book panels. Grubby marks to the book panels and there is browning and foxing marks to the paper edges. Foxing marks to the endpapers and very occasional spot to the internal pages. Previous owner's name to the top right-hand corner of the half title page and there has been newspaper clippings pasted to the front endpapers. The free front endpaper is missing. A Fire protection Officer for the Forestry Commission of New South Wales in the early 1960s, put together a practical Fire survival manual for Australian bushfires.
