Dismissal of a Premier (the Philip Game Papers)
Foott, Bethia,
Book Number: 0234882
Morgan Publications, Sydney, 1968. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Photographic. First Edition. 475 g; VIII, frontispiece, 224 pages, last page blank, illustrated with eight pages of black-and-white photographs. Photographic illustrated dust jacket. Trace of foxing to the top edge of the text block, and slight darkening of the front edge of the text block. The dustjacket has small tears across the top edge, and at the bottom left of the front panel, and rubbing/insect damage to the rear panel, and what appears to be moisture damage to the left-hand side of the spine section of the jacket. This book tells of stirring political activities in the early 30s in the state of New South Wales culminating on May 13, 1932 in the dismissal of Mr J. T. Lang as Premier by the Governor, Sir Philip game. Although a number of legal treatises on the subject have been published, this is the first dispassionate account of what it was like to be living near the centre of activities at that very trying time. As the author's father was Secretary to the Governor, she was very close to government house at the time but her account encompasses much more than merely a "view from Government House". Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. We are happy to provide pictures of this book on request Illustrator: Photographic. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Genealogy & Local History; Politics -- Australian; New South Wales; Inventory No: 0234882.
