Robinson, Neil: World Rail Atlas and Historical Summary Volume 7 : North, East and Central Africa
Book Number: WRA-07
World Rail Atlas Ltd. England 2009 200 pages maps This is the first time that a rail atlas is published for most of these countries. In this volume, an attempt has been made to document the development of railways in all countries covered by the atlas. Therefore not only is a detailed list of railways and tramways given, but also the basic social and economic changes that have taken place in the country, as the latter undoubtedly has an impact upon the evolution of transport links. The level of details socio-economic changes has, however, been scaled down since the last volume, for reasons of relevance and space considerations. The historical chronology does not cover early periods in the country's history apart from a basic overview (this is a railway atlas after all). But it does give an outline of companies formed, concessions granted, successive mergers, nationalisations and later privatisations. The details of each country's rail and tram routes are then listed.
