Thomas, David St John & Whitehouse, Patrick: The Great Days of the Express Trains
Book Number: 012192
Guild Publishing London, England 1990 208 pages colour and b/w photos - The book contains a number of short chapters covering many aspects of railway working from the 1930's and the 50's to early 60's. Some of the short narratives take you "on the journey" with the train, or the loco crew on the footplate. Chapters cover such diverse subjects as cross-country trains, day excursions, summer weekends, sleepers and night trains, shed work, an engineer on the footplate, etc. This is indeed a book for the nostalgic enthusiast, and complements the high standards set by the same authors in their four "150" series, and the "Great Days of the Country Railway" volume. The book has excellent photographic reproduction into the bargain.
