Black coloured cloth boards with gilt embossed titles to the front panel and backstrip. Bumping and fading to the backstrip corners and to the book corners. Fading to the lower 0.25 " edges. Light age toning the text block edge, endpapers and internal text. Colour photographic dustwrapper, showing " The Sleeping Shepherdesses" by Johann Peter Melchior, created in 1770, with black titles to the front panel and backstrip. Heavy rubbing and chipping to the top of dustwrapper corners and backstrip edge. Small pieces missing from the lower left-hand corner of the rear dustwrapper panel and rear backstrip edge. Heavy rubbing to the fold over creases and to the spine darker edges. Rubbing and fading to the dustwrapper panels and yellowing has also occurred to the front dustwrapper panel. Browning to the fold over panels. A history of porcelain, from its founders in China, who kept its secret for many centuries, until the eventual first true European porcelain made in 1709 by Meissen near Dresden. When Meissen's secret was pirated, porcelain knowledge was spread throughout Europe.
