The Army of Hannover 1816-1850
Embree, Michael G.
ISBN: UB28 Uniformology 2008 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Soft Cover New book, 26 Pages of text and 20 color plates. Since 1714, the King of England was also the Elector of Hanover which at that time allowed him to participate in the choice of Holy Roman Emperor. It is therefore not surprising that British and Hanoverian troops often fought alongside each other. In the Seven Years War they shared the great victory of their Infantry regiments at Minden in 1759. When Hanover was overrun by Napoleon’s armies in 1806, their soldiers sought employment with British forces rather than fight for the Corsican. The King’s German Legion, composed of Hanoverian soldiers became one of the most effective units in Wellington’s Army. In 1816 a long peace began in Europe and Hanover became part of the German confederation. As long as the English and Hanoverian monarchs were male they ruled both countries, but on the death of William IV, Hanover separated. The scarlet uniforms worn by Hanover until 1837 were changed to Prussian blue. This volume follows the history of the Hanoverian Army until 1850, when a distinct difference of opinion grew between Hanover and Prussia. Their backing of Austria in 1866 led to their incorporation into Prussia, later Imperial Germany. The lively and informative text is accompanied by 20 magnificent Knötel illustrations wonderfully restored by Philip Cranz. As New

The Continental Cavalry of the American Revolution
Cranz, Philip
ISBN: UB26 Uniformology 2008 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Soft Cover New book, 24 Pages of text and 20 color plates. In the fall of 1777, Brigadier-General Count Casimir Pulaski was appointed to the position of ‘Commander of the Horse’. At the time there were only four understrength regiments for him to command and he strove mightily to build them into a substantial cavalry component of the Continental Army. Despite his efforts and a generally good performance during the war, they never became a truly effective force, mostly because they could never be brought up to proper strength. In 1780 and the 1st and 3rd Light Dragoons were amalgamated. Light Dragoons were present at most of the important engagements, especially in the South. The combined 1st, 3rd and 4th Regiments, along with the French Lauzun’s Legion served in the Yorktown campaign at Gloucester Point fighting against Tarleton’s and Simcoe’s Legions. With nineteen color plates by the artist Steve Palatka and one by Bruce Bassett-Powell, this volume contributes another detailed reference work on the uniforms of the Continental Army. As New

The Army of Spain in the American Revolution Vol. II: The Siege of Pensacola
Cranz, Philip
ISBN: UB25 Uniformology 2008 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Soft Cover New book, 3 Pages of text and 43 color plates. This second volume on the Army of Spain during American War of Independence provides an insight into the decisive Battle of Pensacola where the Spanish Colonial Army under Bernado de Galvez finally ended British dominance in West Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. The early setback of a hurricane in October 1780 delayed his plans and sent his fleet back to Havana to refit. Finally Galvez, with a force of 7,800 arrived off Pensacola and began the siege in March of 1781. Outnumbered more than five to one, the heroic British resistance was eventually overcome in May. The illustrations by the Spanish artists José Bueno and Lull, commissioned by the late Bob Cowan, provide a wonderful pictorial account of the Spanish and colonial forces of the time. This is an essential volume to complete any collection on the uniforms of the War of Independence. As New

Freikorps of the Seven Years War: Hannover and Prussia
Bassett-Powell, Bruce
ISBN: UB23 Uniformology 2008 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Soft Cover New book, 48 pages, 26 Pages of text and 18 color plates. The Seven Years War (1756-1763) was probably the first true World War with the conflict being waged not only in Europe, but in the Indian sub-continent, the West Indies and North America. In Europe, the armies of Austria, France, Prussia, Russia and Great Britain, not to mention a score of German kingdoms, principalities and dukedoms battled for the balance of power on the continent. For Prussia and Frederick the Great, the war was a continuation of the War of Austrian Succession (1740-1748) which contested the rights of Maria Theresa to the Hapsburg throne. Although the Prussian army was mostly made up of regulars, a large number of volunteers, soldiers of fortune and freebooters were assembled into units by, usually wealthy, soldiers of fortune who offered their services to the Prussian King. These units were known as Freikorps and proved to be of limited value militarily. However, they served as line of communications troops, scouts and, more often than not, harassing forces who put the fear of God into stragglers and the civilian population. Some of these units even changed sides and both Austria and France would employ their own Free corps or Legions. This volume examines these corps, detailing their history (where known) and describing their uniforms. Finely restored illustrations by Philip Cranz of Knotel and Marbot prints provide the color plates along with two by the author. As New
